Energy drainers show up as “clutter” in your mind and once you “declutter” you will get rid of an awful lot of stress. You many not even realize how much of this clutter you are hanging onto. Are you still holding onto all the things you say you should do and don’t? The things you could do and don’t?
It’s like carrying around a heavy load of baggage and it keeps you from focusing on something more important instead.

Here’s How to Let Go of Energy Drainers:
Take a close look at your day and get rid of this extra weight by asking yourself some questions that will help identify what your energy drainers are. Write the answers down on paper because when you write the answers down, they become more real. They become harder to forget.
“What I am Putting Up With?”
- Make a list of 10 things that you are putting up with at home.
- Make a list of 10 things that you are putting up with at work.
- Make a list of 10 things that you are putting up with in any other area of your life.
Make an action plan to get rid of these things that you have been putting up with. This means putting it on your calendar and giving yourself a deadline.
Do you realize that sometimes it’s just a matter of deciding not to do them. You can just mark certain tasks “complete”. Draw a line through them and move on.
This “What Am I Putting Up With” exercise is such a powerful tool because it brings to light things that you don’t even notice anymore. After a while you just stopped noticing.
More often than not it isn’t the big things in life stealing your energy. It’s the buildup of little things. It might be that you have a room that needs to be painted, a light bulb that needs to be changed, papers that need to be shredded or a garage that needs to be cleaned.It isn't the big things in life stealing your energy, it's the buildup of little things. These are just small things but they nag at you from the back of your mind and steal your energy in the process.
Either take care of it or cross it off the list. By the way, crossing it off the list is a very real way to handle it. What once seemed important to you may no longer be so. Once you do, that lingering voice inside that nags you will go away.
Here’s the Next Step to Relieve Stress
The next step to relieve stress is to take care of unfinished business. When you do, you’ll notice that you have more time and energy to focus on what counts. You will be able to focus more on the here and now as well as the future.
The result? More happiness. Less stress. You’ll be able to enjoy all that life has to offer you.
- Make a list of things that are unresolved or unfinished in your life.
- Do you need to clear the air with anyone?
- Did you ever say that you were going to call someone or keep in touch with someone and have done nothing about it?
- Is there a thank you note that remains unwritten?
Don’t underestimate the power of this exercise. Once you get started you will be able to let go of some of the things that have been taking up your valuable attention and energy. You will get back the time and space to bring more of the great things you want into your life.
Let go of as many could’s, would’s, should’s, maybe’s and ought’s as you can.
