Consume Foods Rich in Amino Acids
Did you know that 75% of your body consists of amino acids? Amino acids are essential for your muscles, hormones and bones. Many are lost when you exercise and you will want to restore them by eating proteins such as fish, meat or eggs. Using some whey powder in a meal replacement shake also serves this purpose.
Increase Your Good Carbs
During your workout, you will use up your stores of glycogen and you will want to replace them. Glycogen is a form of sugar stored in the liver and muscles which helps to get you through an intense workout. To keep your supply full, eat some good carbs which are slow burning after your workout. These include grains like quinoa, vegetables, fruits, brown rice and oatmeal.
Drink a Protein Shake
Having a protein shake after a good workout gives you a boost of protein. It is quick and easy. I have one in the morning every day because it fills me up for quite a while. You can choose to have a protein shake instead of meat, fish or eggs. There are many different brands to choose from as well as different flavors. Mix and match to see which one you prefer. I like to mix half chocolate and half vanilla and for me, it is the perfect blend of flavors.
I know, water is not a food but keep your body hydrated at all times by drinking water. If you wait until you feel thirsty then you are already a bit dehydrated. Did you know that when you exercise, your body releases toxins through your sweat? Drink plenty of water to wash the toxins away and rejuvenate your body.
Eat a Tuna Sandwich
A protein shake may not give you the satisfaction of eating something. If that sounds like you, try a tuna sandwich. The combination of protein in the tuna and carbs in the bread combine to give you an energy boost after your workout. You might try to sprinkle a little lemon juice or olive oil for flavor. Just don’t turn it into a tuna melt. It defeats your purpose of working out. You know?
Eating healthy foods like these right after your workout is a simple way to stay fit.
