Tapping into the art of happiness is not as difficult or elusive as it might seem. It isn’t something to pursue but rather a decision to be made right now. Happiness is a state of mind. Happiness is a result of what you focus on. Do you focus on what makes you happy or do you focus on the things you think you are lacking?

While I absolutely think it is a great idea to do these things. If you know me, you know that taking a vacation is high on my list of things to do. I believe we need to make time for ourselves even if it is just an afternoon getting a massage or mani/pedi. Taking care of yourself this way rejuvenates you.
You are giving yourself time to clear out your thoughts and come back to your day with fresh energy. Time to figure out what really makes you happy.

So what does make you happy?
When you know the answer to that question, you are on the first step towards happiness.
You might even look around and notice that you already have the things that make you happy. Why is it that everyone seems to put the things on their list that they don’t have? Why not look around and decide that you already have many things in your life that bring you happiness? Take a moment in gratitude for those things in your life right now.
Losing ten pounds is not going to make you happy. It might bring you more energy and it sure will make your clothes fit better. I have just lost ten pounds this year and I have been enjoying new clothes. In and of itself, losing weight will not make you happy.

I’ve been reading The Art of Happiness: A Handbook for Living by the Dalai Lama, and my main takeaway is that having compassion for others will bring happiness to yourself.
